Behind the Shapes: Part #1
over 5 years ago – Mon, Oct 01, 2018 at 12:36:35 PM

When we first saw Adam's rough prototype of Project L, we instantly fell in love with its elegant gameplay. And we knew right away this gem should look really cool as well. Since a lot of you have mentioned how much you like the visual aspect of Project L, we want to use this update to share with you the the first part of the story behind the road towards its current graphic and material design. We hope you will enjoy it! (Updates about the game mechanics will follow.)

Winter 2018 — Love on first line clear! We came across a nice prototype of an incredibly smart game called "Mosaicists". It took just a few plays before knew we wanted to help Adam bring the game alive. We also believed that such elegant game deserved an equally elegant graphic design and materials.

Spring 2018 — Trials and errors. After our first attempts with wood, we quickly realized we need a professional product designer to fully exploit the potential behind the visual and tactile expression of the game. That's where Jaroslav Jurica—a Red Dot awarded designer—came in to take proper care of the materials and the production technology.

First trials included wood.

Late Spring 2018 — We're getting somewhere. ;) Jaroslav soon discarded wood as a possibility and proposed a triple-layer construction scheme for the puzzle tiles. With the highest quality cardboard as the middle layer, the puzzles got their so much appreciated weight and smooth feel when held. Together with the vibrant acrylic pieces, this was a version of Project L we simply couldn't resist :)

Summer 2018 — Finishing touches. By then, everything was ready for Pavel Richter, the graphic designer of Project L. His major contribution was creating the final graphic design of the game — in a lovely minimalistic approach it deserves.

To further improve the tactile expression of the components, Pavel also proposed a Spot UV finish for the puzzle tiles. While this is an expensive addition to the printing process, we couldn't resist the pleasing touch it added! We decided to make it a stretch goal. It's the one you're about to unlock next!

That's it for Part #1 of Behind the Shapes. We hope you enjoyed it. We will uncover more about Jarek's and Pavel's contribution to Project L in the following parts, so stay tuned!

Thank you for being such an awesome community!

Line Cleared!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Sep 26, 2018 at 03:29:00 PM

Hi,

Thanks to your amazing support, Project L is already funded, and all it took was just 5 hours! We can’t put into words how amazing you are! We’re so happy we’re seeing pentomino shapes!

But the fun doesn’t end here! Let’s make the game even better by unlocking the stretch goals. We can’t wait to show you what we have planned down the line!

New stretch goals will be revealed when the current ones are unlocked. Let’s conquer the first one together so we can add 5 additional level 1 pieces into the game!

Thank you so much! We’re looking forward to clearing many more lines with you on board!

So what do you think – how fast can we make that one?
