GameTrayz Insert to store everything Project L!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Dec 16, 2020 at 08:54:04 PM

Hi everyone,

On Monday we have launched the pledge manager for Project L: Finesse, and together with it, we have introduced the storage solution for Project L by GameTrayz! As you probably know they make amazing inserts for a lot of other games. Noah (from GameTrayz) has incredible insight into both the production and storage solutions, therefore, we have devised a new plan for storing Project L. We are making an insert by GameTrayz and together with it, you will receive a new box bottom that replaces the old one. With that Noah will be able to do more work on the design of the trays (make them more pretty and functional).

The initial goal to manufacture this insert was 1500 copies - it was crushed on the first day, and we are incredibly happy for everyone's support.

Breakdown of the insert by GameTrayz

As you can see the insert consists of 3 individual trays in which you store all of the pieces and other components (Finesse Tiles, Credits). Puzzles are stored underneath the trays in groups - you will receive dividers that help you notice which puzzles are where in just a glance.

On the left: Tray with all the puzzles (and dividers), on the right: the tray with the Finesse expansion and markers for Line Clear variant

Please note: That the insert shown in the pictures above is a very good work-in-progress prototype and visualization made by Noah (from GameTrayz). It is going to be perfected to the maximum both from design and gameplay standpoints. It comes with a new box bottom which replaces the base game one. The insert holds everything for Project L (including both of the Ambassador Packs).

We are incredibly happy to work with Noah and GameTrayz to bring you this amazing storage solution. If you are interested in getting it, you can grab it in the late pledge option for €16 (+ shipping). The late pledge option will be available until the end of the year.

🕹️ Project L: Finesse — Last 48 Hours & The Master Box 🕹️
over 3 years ago – Wed, Oct 28, 2020 at 01:01:02 PM

Hi,

First of all, we want to use this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your amazing feedback and support for the Project L reprint and the new Finesse expansion. We know that a lot of you are among the almost 7000 backers of the Finesse campaign, and it is amazing to have you on board. Check out the campaign if you haven't already!

Also, many of you have asked about the storage solution for Project L and we really appreciate that you let us know how you feel about it. In this update, we want to give you a recap of how everything has turned out with the master box, as we have figured out a way in which it could be possible to make it happen.

Project L Master Box — Pledge Manager Add-on

What's the Master Box: This would be a complete storage solution that can fit all the content there is for the game. The idea is that it would include a tray that comfortably fits all puzzle boards in from the base game and the Ghost Piece expansion, the new Finesse tiles, and the content of both Ambassador Packs. There would also be a separate tray for Credits from the Finesse expansion and custom containers with lids for all the different pieces, so you could just take the containers out and start playing.

How to make it happen: We are communicating with the manufacturer about the possibility to produce this, and the biggest barrier is the production volume. We think it could be possible to make this real if we would make at least approximately 1500 of them. However, this is a rough estimate based on our talks with the manufacturer and it may change based on the final shape of the box, its trays, and containers. Such limit comes from the tooling process as all the different trays and containers would require custom tools to be made, which is very expensive.

Master Box add-on: We'd want to keep the Master Box as an optional add-on instead of firmly attaching it to any of the pledge levels and thus forcing the additional price it would cost to backers. Moreover, we don't want to make it available during the Kickstarter campaign since the Kickstarter platform doesn't allow us to put a minimum order limit for add-ons. However, we have an option to create a minimum-order add-on in a pledge manager after the campaign, which is something we did for our other game, Space Race, where we were able to successfully add a playmat to the game like that.

Next steps: After the pledge manager opens, you would see an optional Master Box add-on that you could add into your pledge. If the number of people who want it exceeds the minimum order limit, we'll know that it would be possible to make it. If not, the add-on would disappear, and you wouldn't be charged for it. Having it in the pledge manager like this would also allow us to work out the details with the manufacturer and finalize it's shape.

What do you think? Again, thank you very much for your support, comments, and feedback! We're feel incredibly lucky that you are part of our team!

💥 Project L: Finesse Is Live! 💥
over 3 years ago – Wed, Oct 14, 2020 at 02:35:55 AM

Hi,

Thank you for the incredible amount of very constructive feedback that you have given us on the preview campaign! We really appreciate all the time you took to take a look at the new campaign in the early stage to help us make it better! Many of you have asked about the revised rulebook, the storage solution, and the returning backers pledge, and we'd like to answer your questions in the What's New section below.

We hope we'll see you there for yet another ride together! You'll get everything that's new in the campaign by just going for the Returning Backers pledge.

What's New

Project L: Finesse expansion, introduces a new game module. Adjust your strategy to perform various Finesses to earn Credits, a new resource that you can spend to do more actions. Would you like to know more? Check out this video by Mark Streed!

  • You can pledge only for the Finesse expansion with the Returning Backers pledge.

Revised Rules: We’ve teamed up with Paul Grogan from Gaming Rules! He made several tutorial videos about multiplayer Project L already (published today), he'll be doing live tutorials and playthroughs for the solo variant as well! On top of that, he's working on streamlining the way you can learn to play Project L by working on the revised rulebook we've talked about in the last update.

  • There is a work-in-progress version of the new rules here.
  • We will made a PDF document available for everyone once the graphic layout is finished.
  •  Every backer (returning or new) of the new Kickstarter campaign will get the rulebook printed on the deluxe soft-touch paper as part of their pledge.

New Finesse Ambassador Pack includes 10 extra Finesse tiles for you to play!

  •  As a returning backer, we consider you our Ambassador so you will get the new Finesse Ambassador Pack free automatically with your pledge.

What about the master box? Due to environmental concerns and a considerable price given the very small quantity that would be made (in mass-production terms), we have decided to not include the master box among the add-ons. First, it would mean that the three other boxes would turn to waste, and second, the small number of master boxes produced would make the cost prohibiting if we wanted to keep the high standard of the component quality of the game.

Thank you again for your incredible support! Now.. let's launch the new campaign together!

🕹️ Project L: Finesse Preview is LIVE! 🕹️
over 3 years ago – Tue, Oct 06, 2020 at 11:47:37 PM

Hi,

Project L: Finesse campaign is getting ready for it's October 12 launch! The preview is now LIVE, and we would be incredibly happy if you took the time to look at it and let us know what you think.

Project L: Finesse Kickstarter preview

We've talked a bit about what new mechanics the Finesse expansions bring into the game in Update #40, where many of you have posted a lot of great feedback for us. We'd like to show you the Kickstarter preview page and it would be incredible if you could tell us what you think about it.

We also want to address the feedback that you have given us so far, particularly about the updated rules and a new storage solution:

Master Rulebook: At the moment, Paul Grogan from Gaming Rules! is working on the rulebook to make sure that the updated rules (see Update #40) fit in perfectly and that the game is even easier to learn. We will make the updated rules downloadable as a PDF for everyone once the rulebook has the final graphic design. We understand that you might want to get a physical copy as well, which is why we have added the Master Rulebook add-on into the campaign. This will include all the rules together in a single rulebook printed on the deluxe soft-touch paper.

Master Box: In order to provide a perfect storage solution for Project L with all its expansions, we have also added a Master Box add-on into the campaign. The Master Box will be larger than the base game box and will have a tray that comfortably fits all puzzle boards in the game as well as the new Finesse boards (this includes both Ambassador Packs). It also has a separate tray for Credits (new in Finesse) and custom containers with lids for all the different pieces, so you can just take these out and play. The Master Box add-on also includes the Master Rulebook in it.

Project L: Finesse — Kickstarter launches on October 12

The journey of Project L doesn't end with this campaign. There's a new Project L Kickstarter just around the corner, and it would be amazing to see you on board with us again for another ride! In the upcoming campaign, we will reprint the game with its expansions, and there will be a completely new addition to the Project L family — Finesse.

Project L: Finesse is a new expansion for Project L that introduces a new game module which can be combined with all the previous expansions both in multiplayer and solo. Starting from round three, you will be able to complete goals on Finesse tiles that were randomly selected at the beginning of the game. There is a different goal for each round, and all of the Finesse tiles are visible so you know what's coming. The goals on the Finesse tiles range from having certain pieces in your supply to doing specific actions during your turn. As a reward for completing a Finesse, you get a number of Credits, which is a new resource that you can spend to do more than the standard three actions during your turn.

This expansion adds more strategic options as you can keep adjusting your strategy during the game to get Credits. And once you get them, you can spend them at the right time to exploit the whole new possibilities that 4- or even 5-action turns offer.

Join us in the Launch Event

To celebrate the launch of the the new Kickstarter, we have created an event in which we'll share you news, videos, and photos. During the event we'll also run a competition for 5 all-in deluxe bundles from the upcoming campaign, and we will add an one extra into the pool for every 200 attendees or 30 shares of the event. Let's launch the new campaign together!

This is what a 4-player game with the Finesse expansion looks like.

Revised rules & new how-to-play videos

In the past months, we were able to collect lots of feedback from many Project L plays, thanks to which we could make a few tweaks in the rules to improve the gameplay experience even further:

Take a puzzle: Apart from taking a puzzle from one of the two puzzle rows, you can also take the top puzzle from either of the puzzle decks.

Recycle action (new): Choose one of the rows of puzzles, remove all the puzzles from that row and place them on the bottom of the corresponding deck, in an order of your choice. Then, refill the row by revealing 4 new puzzles from the top of the corresponding puzzle deck.

‘Upgrade’ and ‘Take a new level-1 piece’ merge into one action: These two actions are merged into one, which means that you can taking a new level-1 piece is technically an upgrade.

Completing Puzzles: Keep puzzles in your Victory Point pile face down.

Game End: Once the endgame is triggered (as soon as the black puzzle deck is empty and there are only 4 black puzzles left in the row), each player may now only take a maximum of 1 Black puzzle during their turn (this includes the player who triggered the end of the game, any puzzles they may have taken before the end of the game was triggered do not count towards this limit).

Final Scoring: After counting the points for puzzles that you have completed and deducting points for Finishing Touches, also deduct points for each incomplete puzzle (equal to its point value).

Solo Variant: In the solo variant, you cannot use the new Recycle action. However, you may do the Take a puzzle action to take puzzles from the draw deck instead of from the grid. If you do, the pieces (locks) above the puzzle grid do not move. Also note that the new limit of taking only one more black puzzle once the end game has been triggered does not apply to solo game.

New how-to-play videos

Check out the videos by Cardboard Rhino and JonGetsGames to see how everything from the revised rules fit into the game.

That's all from us for now. We can't wait to hear your thoughts about the upcoming Kickstarter campaign and we hope to see you in the launch event with us. Finally, do let us and other people know how the game plays by giving Project L a rating on BGG.

Thank you again for you amazing support!
